#BellyJelly, the new body positive movement you need to know about

An empowering new campaign is urging women everywhere to embrace our ‘belly jelly’ - and we can't get enough of it.

If you’ve ever worn Spanx, strategically covered your tummy for a photo, donned baggy clothes to the gym or opted for high-waisted leggings in a bid to hide your belly, then this empowering new movement is for you.

The Movemeant Foundation – a body positive organisation which provides educational resources and confidence-boosting tools to young women – has launched a new video campaign encouraging women everywhere to embrace the very normal jiggling of our #BellyJelly.

The powerful clip features a diverse range of women taking on their yoga, running, tennis, football and dancing workouts, throwing caution (read: their gym tops) to the wind, and simply loving the skin they’re in – wobbles and all.

“We all have it. She does. You do. So own it,” the movement proclaims. “When you own your belly jelly, you expose your grit. Your strength. Who you are.”

Since launching, the movement has already been warmly received by close to 2,000 women on Instagram, who have begun sharing their own messages of positivity.

“I never was active growing up,” wrote one user, who began by opening up about her body’s changes post childbirth. “I played in after-school sports, but never understood the impact that movement can make for someone’s self-esteem and confidence, until now. So today I’m going to embrace my #bellyjelly because although my body isn’t perfect, I feel alive when I can move. That to me is the greatest accomplishment one can have in their fitness journey.”

Jenny Gaither, founder of the Movemeant Foundation says: “There has never been a better time to shift the dialogue that women are having around their bodies.

“Embracing our ‘belly jelly’ and celebrating that women are physically strong despite a little jiggle, is a powerful statement and one we hope will inspire women and girls across the country.”
