Stylist and Author Angela Stone caused a stir on The Real Houswives of Auckland, and is now causing a stir in the wardrobes of New Zealand women. She shares her sartorial tips with Simply You.

What’s the most important styling advice you have learnt?

Know your style. Know what your clothing says about you, so you can create a wardrobe whose components work well together. This creates a consistent message, and you will never find yourself saying, “I have all these clothes but nothing to wear”.

What styles look good on everyone?

Our shoulders never age, so everyone can show these off, and displaying your décolletage is also very flattering. You should add prints to your wardrobe because they hide bumps and lumps. Just be mindful of the size of the print – the smaller the print, the smaller you look.

How do we inject new life into our wardrobe as the seasons change?

Try new colour combinations and styles to create a new look. Be brave, seek out different brands and try clothing on – it always looks different on a body.

What trends are you seeing in your stylist’s crystal ball?

Printed pieces will be big this summer and at Milford Shopping Centre there are some gorgeous options at Veronika Maine and Stitch Ministry. The off-the-shoulder style and tops with ruffles and frills are still leading trends and I love the selection Flo & Frankie has to offer this season. When it comes to accessories, the bolder the better. Mischief’s metallic brogues and the range of colourful Kagi jewellery at Flying Saucers is perfect for playing up an outfit.

Top styling tips:

• Take time to find the right colour for your complexion – wearing complementary tones will make you look naturally gorgeous.

• Understand what your body shape is – knowing what to accentuate and what to camouflage is important.

• Mix ‘high’ and ‘low’ fashion brands – it’s more creative and leads to a more individual style.

• Be aware of current trends – integrating the latest looks into your existing wardrobe is the key to looking on-trend.

• Update your style each season with a few key pieces – this can make anyone look more current.

• Love what you wear – when you feel good, you look fab.
