Two Otago Polytechnic fashion design students have been given a valuable nudge into the industry thanks to local retail giant Glassons.

As part of the fashion chain’s commitment to supporting emerging and established Kiwi talent, Glassons has started up an initiative where students can submit designs for commercial feedback.

Two students in particular, Kenya Quin and Sophie Ball, created standout submissions that impressed Glassons General Manager Sebastian Cole and Design Manager Kiriana Pettersen.

Kenya earned a one-month internship with Glassons thanks to her fashionable yet commercially transferable aesthetic. Fellow student Sophie also wowed with her theme and personality, leading to a Glassons Snapchat takeover and the chance to reach thousands of style-savvy followers.

As well as that, Petterson will be styling one piece from each student’s submission in an online lookbook to be published on Glassons.com.

“The level of design and commitment at Otago Polytechnic is extremely refreshing,” Cole said in a statement.

“It gives me great hope for the future of New Zealand fashion.”

The awards given to Kenya and Sophie are part of a larger 12 month project due to finish in November, which will see one overall winner receiving a one-year design internship at Glassons.
