Swimsuit guide

The thought of getting into a swimsuit can be terrifying for many of us and purchasing one can be even worse. Recently my husband and I went to sunny Vanuatu on our honeymoon. I’ve always been a bikini girl, but

after being in a nasty car accident late last year I’m left with major scars on my stomach.

Though they’re now part of who I am, I don’t like showing them off.

Thankfully, one of my gorgeous friends bought me the best swimsuit from Kmart. Essentially it’s a bikini that’s joined over the tummy, with the sides cut out. If there are areas of your body you feel uncomfortable showing off, there are ways around this.

To make yourself look smaller, opt for a dark colour and avoid bold patterns. To create curves, try patterns and prints. To cover a tummy, go for ruches that sweep across the area. For a fuller bust, opt for something which gathers or ruffles around the chest.

Always rinse and dry your swimwear as soon as you’re done wearing it. Salt water, sand and chlorine are all corrosive – they will fade colour and eat away at fabric fibres if left unwashed.

Swimwear can be very expensive, which can be hard to justify when you’re looking at a tiny bit of fabric. However, many chain stores now offer an amazing range of choices at affordable prices.

If you are sick of sucking your tummy in at the beach, look for swimwear with control panels that will hold your body firmly in place.
