If you saw our fashion week special a few issues ago, you may have noticed my animal print jumpsuit. The safari look is versatile, functional and also effortless. Fabrics are mostly natural – cotton, linen and silk – and usually in neutral tones such as cream, khaki, camel and tan.

You can get a glamorous look by opting for maxi lengths and adding leather wood and chunky gold accessories. If you’re planning a trip to a bach or holiday park this summer, the safari look will enable you to pack a few low-maintenance items you can mix and match. Things to throw in your bag are a maxidress, cargo pants, print shorts, slouchy cardi, long-sleeved shirt, T-shirt, a print tunic and a large scarf that can also be worn as a wrap over your swimsuit.

Asymmetrical lines are back in diagonal hems and one-shoulder tops and dresses. Black and white prints are fresh and timeless. This silk dress from RJC is a perfect look for summer. Hem lengths are getting longer – mid-calf to maxi is what’s hot for the warmer months.

Cargo pants are the safari style’s alternative to jeans. The new look in cargos is slim-fit, rather than the classic baggy version. I’m going to get my hands on a white pair for this summer – they’ll be perfect to wear on weekends and at barbecues.

Maxi skirts are so comfortable and flattering. You can pull the elasticated waist over your bust to create a strapless dress, then add a belt and knit over the top.

Geox shoes are the ultimate in summer comfort. These shoes have breathable soles that contain a special microporous membrane to air your feet.

Lightweight cotton knits are perfect for temperamental weather. When spring comes, layer new-season looks. We have all seen people sporting summer clothing way too soon and it makes your toes curl up at how cold they look.

Layer knits over dresses and add a belt and some accessories to get a variety of looks.
