Floor-sweeping floaty skirts, soft, draping tops and long cardigans are the trends to be seen in this spring and summer.
over the cooler months, start with a fitted warm base layer and build your soft layers over the top to give the body a slick, elegant look. opt for fine chiffon and silk dresses, skirts and tops, or fine cotton and merino outer layers.
The key is to have movement and drape, and to follow the three-layer rule – any more than that and you will end up looking bulky.
When it comes to fashion, opposites attract, so as the layered look is so feminine and soft, harden it up with chunky boots or wedges. Throw in a fitted blazer or leather jacket over the top if you want to create more curve through your mid-section.
The layered look is the perfect way to revive some of your once-loved pieces and show them the light of day. A great way to add an inexpensive, fresh look is with coloured hosiery, or adding a belt or a scarf. Don’t limit your garments to the same combinations – mix it up!
Give the feminine layered look a rock edge with a leather jacket. I’m in love with this one from Max – its draping collar and asymmetrical lines make it flattering and it also has a stretch panel down the inside seam for comfort and movement
Shanton has a great selection of fine long cardis – I love both the price and the flattering hemline. Straight lines across the body are not very forgiving, but the curved hem of this cardi (above right) is the perfect top layer to your look
Layering starts with a good base. over the colder months, fitted merino tops are a favourite, but as spring arrives, move to fitted lace tops for a more feminine look. If you are creating a slimming look, start with lighter-coloured base garments and wear the darker colours on top
