How to do retro Hollywood style

What do Scarlett Johannsson, Dita Von Teese, Katy Perry and Kiwi actress Emily Barclay have in common (apart from stunning good looks?) The ability to carry off red-hot, vintage Hollywood without looking contrived. If you’re brave enough to give it a go, it’s important to start with the right attitude – it’s flirty, feminine and glamorous so be prepared for the attention!

Hair is a big part of this look so if yours is short, style it into a voluminous bouffant by backcombing and using hairspray. If it’s long set it in rollers for a few hours and push back your curls with a headband.

Try shopping at vintage stores for 1950s-style shirt dresses that nip in at the waist or pair full skirts with cropped, buttoned-up cardigans. Look out for modern takes on the retro look too, such as strapless dresses with rouched bodices and flowing skirts.
