Dressing with jewels

Shine like a jewel in glamorous gem tones this summer – ruby, emerald, sapphire and amethyst. These sultry hues create a dramatic look that will maximise the effect of tailoring and details such as ruffles, pleats and draping.

Ruby red will look amazing with most hair colours, but you need to be aware of your skin tone when choosing a red garment. If you have a pink skin tone you may be better off in other colours, leaving red for those with a cooler base or olive skin.

Sapphire blue brightens up most complexions. If you haven’t tried this colour before, give it a go. If you’re a redhead, blue can be difficult. It can work, but if you’re not sure, emerald green is the colour for you. Don’t be afraid to mix up your jewel tones for some striking results.

I suggest green with blue and reds with rich purple. If you don’t feel bold enough to mix colours, your faithful black, tans and neutral tones will work just as well.
