In Tahiti it’s a pareu, in Tonga it’s called a tupenu. In Fiji it’s known as a sulu and in Samoa (where our gorgeous photos were shot) you’ll wear a lava-lava, but whatever you call this versatile length of fabric, no island holiday is complete without it! The humble sarong can take you to andfrom the beach, tied in a variety of ways to suit your size and shape.
When you’re travelling overseas, the trick is to pack as little as possible and make sure that what you do take is easy to care for. In humid island environments, light fabrics such as cotton and silk are just the ticket. They can be rolled up easily to fit in your bag and if they get a little wrinkled, a quick iron or a spell in a steamy bathroom will soon straighten things out!
