Summer Q & A: Sunscreen and foundation

oany foundations come with a built in SPF - however this shouldn't replace your daily sunscreen routine.

Should you put sunscreen over or under foundation?

Sunscreen should always be applied under foundation. Once applied, wait ten minutes or until your skin is dry, then put on your foundation –  preferably one with an SPF.

Although many foundations come with a built in SPF, it is still recommended that you apply a high spectrum sunscreen underneath. Foundations are primarily designed to even out skin tone and hide imperfections, not to protect you from the sun.

The skin on the face is delicate and especially sensitive to over-exposure, which is why many sunscreens are made especially for this area.

Remember that ‘layering’ more than one product, such as a sunscreen and a foundation with SPF, does not increase your protection. The product with the highest SPF will act as the main sunscreen.

We all know that over-exposure to sunlight causes premature aging and wrinkles. Protect yourself this summer and your skin will reap the benefits in the future.
