Ditch frosty white eyeshadow

“Frosty white eyeshadow is out – you have to let go of the ’80s! As well as looking dated, white eyeshadow is actually used in special effects make-up to make skin look more wrinkly, puffy and scaly. So imagine what it will do to puffy, heavy eyelids!” Instead, go for a neutral shade such as taupe.

TRY Bourjois Little Round Pot Eyeshadow in Utaupique, $22.99.

Choose a neutral lip colour

“If you have excessively wrinkled lips, avoid bright or dark lipsticks that tend to bleed into wrinkles. Instead, use a tinted lip balm or a softer, more natural lip shade. Minimise the use of thick, gluey glosses – go for matte shades that grip so they won’t run.”

TRY Rimmel The Only 1 Lipstick in Rosetto, $16.99.

Avoid heavy foundation

“Cakey coverage makes skin look flat and muddy, and clings to wrinkles – so stick to a translucent powder. But avoid anything with beige or pink undertones as this will also

age you by making it look like you’re wearing a mask.”

TRY Antipodes Skin Brightening Mineral Finishing Powder, $46.90.

TRY Osmosis Colour Finishing Powder, $80.

Lower your eyebrow arch

“One of the most prominent changes in an older face is sunken eyes, which make it look like your brow bones are protruding. The easy way to disguise this is to lower your arch. Using a pencil, fill in the area just under your natural brow hairs with short, soft strokes.”

TRY Innoxa 2-in-1 Brow Shape & Highlight, $26.99.

Rethink your eye makeup

“Our eyes tend to droop as we age, which means the inner rim becomes more exposed. Give yours a lift

by applying eyeliner on the top lashline only. For ease of use, opt for gel eyeliners. They don’t dry as fast as liquid ones, so you have more time to blend.”

TRY Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner, $42.

Lift your blush

“As we get older, our cheeks seem to creep closer to the corners of our mouth, so apply colour high for a youthful look. And don’t smile when applying – your cheeks become lifted, so the blush ends up too low.”

TRY Natio Cream to Powder Blush, $16.50.
