How to: slicked-back hair

Bold and glam, the slicked back hairstyle is a red-carpet fave that’s easy to achieve at home
Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian West’s ’do at the recent 2015 MTV Video Music Awards was a perfect example of the slicked-back trend dominating A-list events. Kim’s look on the night was created by celebrity hairstylist Michael Silva using Moroccanoil.

“Kim’s sleek and chic hairstyle is inspired by the ‘Balmain Girl’, who perfectly captures strong, graphic and modern glamour,” he tells. Here’s how to copy it.

1. Begin by prepping wet hair from root to tip with a light oil treatment, followed by a volumising mousse, then finish with a styling gel.

2. Using a brush, blow-dry hair smooth and away from your face.

3. Once hair is dry, create perfectly straight strands by flat ironing five centimetre sections of hair (working from the neck up) and finishing each with a glimmer shine spray.

4. To finish the look, brush hair from the front hairline back to the nape of the neck, and lock in place with a generous mist of luminous hairspray.
