Kick your skincare routine into gear with these simple steps.
Simple steps for kick starting your skincare routine

When you’re busy and tired it’s tempting to remove makeup with a wet wipe and call your skin clean. But if your routine only takes seconds, then most likely you’re leaving behind a residue of sweat, sunscreen, makeup, dirt and dead skin cells. The result? Blocked pores, blemishes and lacklustre skin that won’t absorb moisturisers or anti-ageing treatments effectively. The first step to super-healthy skin is good cleansing. Send your skin to boot camp and see the difference it makes.

Cleansing 101

  • Double cleanse at night if you’re wearing makeup. Skin should not feel tight after you’ve cleansed. If it does then either the water is too hot or your product is too harsh – or both. Use lukewarm water and, even if you have oily skin, stick to mild products. Stripping the skin will only encourage it to produce more oil and result in more blemishes.

  • Wash your hands before you cleanse and then emulsify the product between them before applying to skin. Most cleansers benefit from being left on for a few moments to really dissolve grime.

  • Be gentle! If you remove your cleanser with a damp flannel, don’t scrub at your skin. If you prefer to rinse it off then don’t put your face directly beneath the shower jet – splash

the water on instead.

  • Take your time. Most women cleanse in 10 seconds when it ought to take a minute.

  • Make sure to cleanse the area around your hairline as this can get clogged as a result of using hair-styling products.

  • Use products suited to your skin type. As a general rule foaming cleansers and gels are great for oily/combination skins and creams and butters are best for dry skins.

  • The very best cleansers multitask and/or put something back into your skin. If you’ve been using the same one for ages then it may be time for an update.

**Don’t worry if your skin breaks out after you change your cleansing regime – this is normal and it should settle down within a couple of weeks
