Depending on the occasion, opt for a specific feature such as eyes, cheeks or lips works best. If your skin is on the oily side, don’t apply shimmer on the face to avoid looking greasy.

What are the best ways to apply it?

A touch of shimmer on your cheeks looks fabulous when teamed with a natural-looking blush. It helps give definition, which is always a bonus.

Shimmer on the inner corners of the eyes is a fantastic way to open them up. Avoid using it over the brow bone though, as it can look overdone and will be distracting. The trick is to glow and not look like a disco ball.

Can you still pull off shimmer if you’re older?

Absolutely! Shimmer comes in a wide variety of products whether it’s loose, pressed, liquid, colourful or subtle. Creams tend to have a more subtle shimmer, whereas powders tend to be more intense. It’s about the occasion and using what works for you.

A loose shimmer is perfect on your décollatage, or add a glow to the skin using a liquid. on your eyes, use an eyeshadow with a shimmer as your base colour. This works well when blending matte shades over the top. Not only will your colours blend smoothly, you’ll get a subtle shimmer shining through.

Apply a base colour over your eyelids and then top with a light shimmery shade, making sure to tap any excess product off the brush and work the colours up to the crease of the eye and blend out.

Apply a black eye-definer or liner to contrast against the eyeshadow, working it into the lashes along the upper lash line. Then softly smudge along the lower lash line. Load the lashes with black mascara to really open up the eyes and you’re ready to party.

Any more tips?

Mix a loose shimmer with body lotion for an all-over glow. Adding a touch of shimmer to the top of the Cupid’s bow enhances the lips and gives you a great pout. A light-coloured eye shimmer works well for this.
