Salon Q & A: maintaining your blow dry

A visit to the beauty salon is a regular occurrence for some, a luxury treat for others. Here we have some expert tips on how to get the most out of your visit and make the treatments last.

How can I make my salon blow dry last?

IF YOU want your blow-dry to last overnight, try tying your hair back very loosely with a fabric-covered elastic (a loose braid or bun), says Howard McLaren, Bumble and Bumble’s artistic director.

‘And try sleeping on a silk pillow, as silk fibres do the least damage to hair. ‘To prevent curl or wave in straight hair, cut up an old pair of tights and make a tight headband. The tights conform to the contours of your hairline more readily and will control curls.’

On the second day, if your hair line isn’t looking as clean, use straightening irons on the flyaway hairs. Dry shampoo is also a good option for keeping your hair clean whilst maintaining your blow dry.
