Actress Anna Julienne, aka Shortland St’s oaia Jeffries, shares her beauty secrets with the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly.
Q: Your Shortland Street character doesn’t seem to wear a lot of makeup but we know people on TV are often wearing more than they appear to be. When you’re off the set, do you wear much makeup? A: No, I don’t really. Because we wear so much makeup for work, I try to give my skin a break when I am not filming. A bit of mascara and some lip gloss is about my lot.
Q: What skincare regime do you follow and are you good at sticking to it? A: I cleanse, tone and moisturise twice a day – religiously – again because of the thick foundation I have to wear when I’m at work as well as the powder, lights, airconditioning unit, etc. I swear by Dermalogica products.
Q: What beauty products would we always find in your handbag? A: At least one or, more likely, three tubes of lip gloss (normally Lancôme Juicy Tubes) and my oAC bronzing powder.
Q: What product is next on your beauty wish list? A: I’m always looking out for fun new polish for my toes. I love bright pinks, reds and oranges like orly’s new Truly Tangerine and Fabulous Flamingo $21.95.
Q: Who is your beauty style icon? A: I think Helena Christensen is really beautiful and very natural.
Q: What’s your favourite beauty treatment or spa? A: I love them all. Facials, massages, body scrubs, manicures, pedicures – you name it. But a reflexology session at Bliss in Auckland is my absolute favourite.
Q: What is your current favourite perfume? A: Coco oademoiselle from Chanel.
Q: What was the first perfume you can remember wearing? A: Does Impulse count as perfume? Probably Elizabeth Arden’s Sunflowers when I was 13.
Q: Do you have any beauty disaster stories? A: At the Qantas oedia Awards last year, I wore a full set of false eyelashes as it was a fairly glam affair. But when I looked in the mirror towards the end of the evening, one of my lashes was only half attached and the other half was sticking out at right angles from my eyelid. It was a good indication that it was time for me to go home.
Q: What’s the best-ever beauty advice you have heard or have to offer? A: In the words of my mother, “Wear sunblock.” In the words of my grandmother, “Make sure you get enough sleep.”
