Preparing to exfoliate

Whether you’re throwing a dinner party, painting a masterpiece or writing an essay, the secret to your success lies in the preparation. The same holds true for your skin. If you’re preparing to apply self-tanner, getting ready to shave your legs or you just want to have natural, glowing skin, remember this – the smoother the surface, the better the finish.

A body scrub is not simply a treat; it’s an essential, in winter and summer. Regular exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells, leaving skin soft and smooth, while the friction generated boosts your circulation.

Follow our quick tips for exfoliating.

  • Use your scrub only on damp skin – never try to exfoliate dry skin.

  • Using your hand or a face cloth, gently massage the scrub into your skin, using short, circular strokes.

  • Pay extra attention to your elbows, knees, heels and other areas where your skin tends to be rougher.

  • Never use your body scrub on your face – the grains are too coarse. only use gentle facial exfoliators on your face and never use them near your eyes.

  • Never use exfoliating scrubs on broken, bruised or freshly shaved skin – ouch!

  • For optimum results, use your scrub twice a week – but don’t overdo it.

  • Rinse your skin thoroughly after exfoliating and apply generous amounts of moisturiser.

  • Fruit-based scrubs will remove fake tan from your skin faster than a thief in the night – handy to know if you want to tone it down but a disaster if you have just tanned for a night out.
