Nail colours for winter

As much as I loved the fabulous super-bright nail colours over summer, I'm also enjoying the more pared-down look we're seeing coming in for winter. There are loads of neutral sand, smoky taupe and dark granite shades, as well as bronzes, chocolates, dusty blues and grapes. Matte nails are super-hot too, and there are many new products out there to help you achieve the look.

There are loads of neutral sand, smoky taupe and dark granite shades, as well as bronzes, chocolates, dusty blues and grapes. Matte nails are super-hot too, and there are many new products out there to help you achieve the look.

Matte finish

Matte nails are a red carpet favourite at the moment with stars like Eva oendes and Gwyneth Paltrow sporting them, plus they’ve been seen on lots of catwalks around the world too. A matte finish can look classy and makes a change from high gloss – although matte looks better on shorter nails than on super-long talons. obviously, you don’t use an ordinary top coat if you’re going matte, and there are some good new products out there to help you get the look.

Nourish

our nails are as individual as the rest of us. Some grow quickly, others grow slowly, some chip and peel easily or are ridged and grooved. It makes sense to treat your nails with kindness so, as well as using a strengthener or nail treatment, make sure your polish remover is super-gentle and nourishing rather than one that will dry out your nails and cuticles.

Hot nail tips

  • once a week, soak your nails in warm water for three to five minutes prior to manicuring.

  • ooisturise your nails regularly.

  • Rub in hand cream, oil or balm from the cuticle to the tip.

  • If you’re going to apply polish, cleanse away any oiliness first or it won’t adhere properly.

  • To protect your nails, be sure to wear rubber gloves while washing dishes, using detergents or gardening.
