My beauty philosophy is… Compliment other people whenever you can – it feels good and karma counters crows feet.
The skincare products I can’t live without are… Dermalogica Age Smart Skinperfect Primer. It’s amazing – like panelbeater’s bog for your face. It fills in the pits and dents, smoothing over the flaky bits so your foundation looks flawless on top. When I die, I want a tube of this thrown into my coffin. Should I ever come back as a zombie, then at least my face will look alive.
I’m also loving L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser x3 Moisturiser and lemons. Every morning for the last few months, I’ve been squeezing the juice of a whole lemon into lukewarm water, and drinking it 30 minutes before I consume anything else – my skin is loving it!
My haircare secret is…Colourist Johnnie at Ginger Meggs Salon in Christchurch. I also use Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum Miracle Filler treatment every day – and Alberto VO5 Styling Wax keeps my candyfloss hair under control.
The must-have products in my make-up bag are… Yves Saint Laurant Touche Eclat, Revlon ColorStay Foundation, Elizabeth Arden Dual Perfection Brow Shaper Kit in Sable, Kiehl’s Lip Gloss, ZA Oil Blotter Sheets, Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick in Really Red and the amazing Johnson’s Daily Essentials Facial Cleansing Wipes. Oh, and tweezers. Why did no-one tell me that when you have babies, you suddenly grow all these random whiskers?
My favourite beauty treat is… Sleep, getting my hair done (I’m forced to read magazines for hours – bliss!) and, if I’m lucky, a massage and facial on Mother’s Day.
My biggest beauty sin is… Not getting enough sleep. I chew and pick the skin around my nails when stressed. Also, I bitterly regret not putting sunscreen on my décolletage when I was a teenager.
The best thing my mother taught me about beauty was… Think young, always act like an attractive person, and never, ever let yourself go. As kids, we thought she looked like a model or Princess Diana, and our father used to tease her about how she wouldn’t leave the house without full make-up, but she still looks incredible in her late fifties, so that care paid off.
