Auckland’s Emily Collins, 22, is a competitive Kiwi cyclist currently based in Belgium.
My beauty philosophy is… I spend a lot of time outdoors on my bike. This can be up to five hours, so skincare and protection is important. I also like to have my nails painted at all times – especially when wearing short-fingered gloves on my bike. Little things like having bright nails can make us girls feel a lot more feminine out there. OPI Elephantastic Pink is my current favourite.
The skincare products I can’t live without are… Nimue Skin Technology face wash, toner and moisturisers. They have a great SPF moisturiser I always use generously before training. Also, with all the sweating I do when competing, their cleanser is a must to prevent breakouts
My haircare secret is… I’m a natural blonde, but my hair often tends to go a bit dull in the winter. Last year, I discovered L’orÉal silver shampoo, which is great for keeping it nice and bright. I’m also a fan of letting my hair dry naturally if I’m not in a rush – it goes curly, which is cool.
The must-have products in my make-up bag are…Lip balm, lipstick or gloss, mascara, blush, concealer and my hair brush.
My favourite beauty treat is… I love a good pedicure. They’re so relaxing and a great way to wind down after a hard training session.
My biggest beauty sin is… I can’t stand chipped nails, especially when wearing bright colours. I spend a bit of time (reluctantly) having to clean my bike, so it’s important to have good nail polish that will keep intact! The best thing my mother taught me about beauty was… Less is best – my mum has never really worn make-up and she’s a babe. She’s always told me and my sister we look our best au naturel.
