Match your makeup

Finding makeup that truly suits you is always a challenge. How many shades of lippy or eyeshadow have you bought and then stopped using because they just didn’t work with your complexion? Biff it or pass it on, is my advice. There’s only room in your makeup bag for stuff that makes you look great!

Fair complexions

  • DoN’T go too nude with your eye and lip shades as overdoing the beige will sap your colour. Do play with shimmery eyeshadows in pastel colours, such as pink.

  • DoN’T use loads of heavy black eyeliner as it can look harsh and ageing on fairer complexions.

  • Do use a lipstick a couple of shades darker than your natural lip colour for everyday wear and make a statement with a bold fuchsia on dress-up days.

  • DoN’T try to darken your complexion with lots of bronzer. Instead, highlight your cheeks with a warm pink blush to give your face a fresh, vital appearance.

oedium complexions

  • Do use a soft peachy blush to warm up a sallow complexion.

  • DoN’T always go for black mascara – a deep brown can often be a more flattering option.

  • Do try a colour other than brown on the eyes – shades of green or purple can look great if you have a medium skintone with hazel eyes.

  • DoN’T use a pink-toned blush if you have lots of red in your skin.

  • Do go for a flattering just-kissed pink on the lips rather than brown/nude. A shimmery lip gloss over the top will give it an extra kick.

Dark complexions

  • Do use bold berry colours on the lips.

  • DoN’T go for frosted or pearlescent pale shades on the lips unless you want people to keep asking if you feel okay.

  • Do invest in an eyeshadow palette with a range of shades so you can create a variation of looks.

  • DoN’T use white-based shades around your eyes or you’ll look washed out.

  • Do bring out your natural glow with gold shimmers on eyelids and cheeks.
