Your man might not be a Hollywood hero but any bloke can make the best of his natural assets. oen may not have the same skin as women but, when the wrinkles do arrive, the ageing process is actually faster. That’s why spunky guys can go downhill fast.
The answer to preventing premature ageing is good skincare, as or Clooney clearly knows. oen’s skin is different to ours. It’s about 22% thicker for a start. Plus it’s oilier, has larger pores, a richer blood supply and an increased tendency to sweat.
So if his fingers keep straying into your pots of moisturiser, then it’s time for him to get his own products, ones especially formulated to deal with male skin problems.
Toni-Anne Arbon of L’oreal Paris reckons Kiwi men are starting to catch on to the concept of skincare. “More men are recognising that, to look good, one of the things they have to do is use the right products for their skin,” she says. “There’s also the benefit of smelling manly, rather than womanly!”
The first step is to identify his skin type:
If it’s shiny and prone to large pores and blemishes, then it’s on the oily side and he needs a product that’s mattifying.
If his skin feels tight, then it’s dry and he needs products that are rich and hydrating.
If it’s blotchy and tends to burn easily in the sun, then chances are he has sensitive skin so soothing products are for him.
Cleansing twice daily and exfoliating at least once a week is a must for all skin types. But it’s a big old myth that oily skin needs a good scrubbing with something harsh to bring it into line. The truth is, gentle cleansers and scrubs are best for everyone.
Check out The Body Shop’s For oen range, which has a soap-free Face Wash ($17) and a conditioning light Facial Scrub ($20). Then it’s simply a matter of finding the right moisturiser to suit his skin type.
