Lilacs

Pastels are huge right now, especially lilacs and lavenders, which are the season’s “it” shades according to Lancôme’s creative director Aaron De Mey. Easy to wear, lilacs work with most eye colours and skin tones. Blend into a smoky eye with light and dark greys or wear a subtle wash of colour on the lid and a darker liner against the upper lashes. It’s a modern twist on classic 1970s glam.

  • Balance your face with this tip from top makeup artist Francesca Tolot: “If your eyes are close together, use a lighter colour on the inside corner. If they’re set wider apart, or you have a wide nose, blend a darker shade there instead.”

Natural Makeup

Natural skincare and haircare are huge. Now, it’s makeup’s turn. Many brands offer high- performance cosmetics with botanical and natural mineral ingredients, many of which are organic. Loads of them are enriched with stuff your skin loves too, like shea butter and natural oils.

Clever Mascara

“Troubleshooting” mascaras aim to make application easier than ever. There are mascaras designed purely for the bottom lashes that’s perfect for anyone who struggles with brushes that are too fat, long or curved the wrong way to define the lower lashes. Mascaras are also available with adjustable bristles so you can create two distinct lash looks.

  • If you have very short lower lashes, apply mascara using just the tip of the wand

Metallics

Metallics have been hot for a while now and they’re not showing any sign of going away – possibly because they’re a fast and easy way of creating a high impact makeup look.

Luminisers

You have to be careful highlighting areas of your face with light-reflecting products as it’s easy to look overdone. But, applied sparingly, luminisers and radiance bosters are an instant lift for skin. Use as a highlighter on cheekbones, above brown shades, down the bridge of the nose, or mix into foundation or lighten under eyes.
