How to… create a long-lasting lip look
Before applying any makeup, slick on some nourishing lip balm. By the time you’ve finished with your foundation, eyeshadow, etc, your lips will be primed and ready.
Fill in the entire lip area with a lip liner/pencil and then dust lightly with a little pressed or loose powder.
Apply lipstick, blot with a tissue and dust with powder.
Reapply lipstick and re-trace the outline of lips with pencil if necessary to prevent feathering.
Finish with gloss. If your lips are wrinkled, dab it in the centre to avoid the gloss bleeding into lines.
Neveruse foundation as a primer under lipstick as it won’t blend with your lippy and may end up going cakey.
Alwaysuse a lip liner/pencil that is roughly the same shade as your lippy.
Ifyou have hair growing down into the lip line, tweeze it out before you start applying makeup.
How to… create a lasting look for eyes
Cleanse your eyes with a water-based cleanser to take off all traces of oil or moisturiser (makeup slides off oily skin).
Put a little foundation on the eyelids or, better still, a proper eye base. This will provide a neutral canvas for powder eyeshadow and will help the look last longer.
You can also lightly dust your eyelids with translucent powder for added effect.
Press on powder eyeshadow with a brush and blend.
Alwaysapply two or three coats of mascara. Wipe off any excess product first, then roll the wand as you brush it on to separate lashes and avoid clumping.
Ifyou’re going to line your lower lashes, remember to line the upper lashes too. Be sure the lines meet in the outer corner of the eye.
How to… go from day to night
There’s no need to completely cleanse and re-do your makeup if you’re going from the office to a party. Just clean up any smudgy, streaky bits and pep up your makeup by:
Using a blush that is slightly brighter than your usual daytime blush.
Using shimmer on lips, eyes and cheeks (although not in all those places at once).
Switching to a darker shade of lipstick.
