There’s a difference between scraping back your hair for a gym class and wearing a stylish ponytail. The perfect pony isn’t an especially speedy style to create, but the result is a go-anywhere look that’s perfect for work or play, winter and summer. It’s important to start with clean, dry, straight hair that looks shiny and healthy. Here’s what you do next:

  1. Mist the crown and lengths of the hair with ma shine spray and then brush it through to coat hair evenly. Using a paddle brush, sweep back hair without creating a parting and secure the ponytail above the nape of the neck with a snag-free elastic, preferably in the same colour as your hair. Don’t wind this too tightly round the ponytail, to avoid damage and breakage.

  2. Now take a small section of hair from the underside of your ponytail. It should be about the width of a pencil. Wrap it firmly round the elastic band. Secure the end under your ponytail with a bobby clip in a shade that matches your hair.

  3. Divide the ponytail into three sections. oist with a light hairspray and curl each section with tongs. Allow the hair to cool, then wrap the entire ponytail around your fingers to create one curl and mist with hairspray.

  4. If you have a fringe, sweep it to the side and hold it in place with hairspray rather than a clip.
