How to choose the right foundation

Consider buying a tinted moisturiser with SPF instead, or diluting your foundation with your moisturiser. Combined with a good concealer, you may find you can skip the foundation and let your skin breathe, au naturel.

otherwise, if you’re serious about buying a good foundation, ask for assistance at the makeup counter of a department store (Smith & Caughey’s, for instance). You’re best to turn up with nothing but a clean, fresh face. Choose the best formula for your skin-type – oily, dry, sensitive. Combination skins may suit an oil-free blend with moisturisers or a cream-to-powder option. Very fair skin often suits a cool, pink-based shade, whereas most other skin tones suit a yellow-based foundation. Likewise, very pink complexions can be balanced with a beige foundation.

Sheer, natural blends are good for clear skin, medium coverage is good for most complexions, matte finish and powder finish are good options for oily skin.

Sample on your jawline (not your hand!) and check it by standing by a window or in natural light. Is it noticeable? If so, try a different shade.
