HOW TO BLUSHER

(1) Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Radiance Blush in Stardust $68

Worst mistakes?

Too much application – unblended and incorrectly placed on your face.

Always remember…

Start with less and you can always add more, little by little. It should look like a natural colouring in your cheeks. I also recommend using one that complements the shade of lipstick you wear.

(2) Inika Mineral Blush in Blooming Nude $44.99

How to:

Smile to emphasise the apples of your cheeks. With a brush, start applying in small circles on the plumpest part of the cheek and out towards the top of the ear. Afterwards, blend out to the edges with a light wash of foundation. You can also use a very sheer layer of foundation over the top. And try applying a matte blush and luminous blush over the top for a beautiful, highlighted effect.

HOW TO FOUNDATION

(3) MAC-Mineralize-Moisture-SPF-15-Foundation-$75-

Worst mistakes?

Wearing way too much – nothing looks worse than a mask. And don’t choose the wrong shade. If it’s too dark your skin will look ruddy; too light and you end up with a grey looking complexion.

Always remember…

A dry surface causes the make-up to “grab”, resulting in a patchy finish, so moisturise first. Test foundation colours on your cheek or jawline rather than your hand (where the skin is darker). The perfect option blends seamlessly into skin. Check in natural outdoor light, rather than under the glare of artificial lighting in department stores.

How to:

Using a light liquid foundation, blend with your fingertips from the centre of the face and work outwards, smoothing it gently across your cheeks and forehead. Take care to blend out the edges. For the areas of your face which may require extra coverage – such as red veins or blemishes – you could carefully apply some more, using your fingertip or even a small concealer brush.

(4) Revlon ColorStay Eyeshadow Quad in Seductive $31.95.

Worst Mistake?

Lack of blending. You should do this lightly after each shade using a fluffy brush and small circular motions, so they flow into one another.

Always remember…

Select shades that contrast with your eye colour. For blue, look at bronzes and browns; green should seek out mauve, greys and purples; brown can wear almost anything, but blue looks especially great. Use eyeshadow instead of a pencil for the bottom lash-line. It offers a softer look.

How To:

When applying colour, press the brush to the skin rather than sweeping it. You’ll reduce the amount of “drop-down” and build colour quicker. Use darker shades in the outer

half and along the sockets of the eyes, and lighter ones in the inner half and along the brow bone.

For staying power and perfectly shaped outer edges, use a pencil first. Start at the middle of the bottom lip and work outwards to the corners, then work your way along

the top. Apply lipstick with a brush for more accuracy and a smoother finish. Correct any outer edge mishaps by wiping them away with a cotton bud lightly coated in

eye make-up remover.
