How to apply eyeshadow

The key is to enhance the eye rather than treat it as a canvas for your favourite colours. It’s our eyes that people look at most so it’s extra important to get this right. In conjunction with mascara and eyeliner, these techniques will really help your eyes pop!

Start with a light shade to create a base and to highlight the eye region. Apply all over the lid, including up to the eyebrow. Then choose a medium shade to use on the lash line and in the crease of the eyelid. Rather than brushing it on willy-nilly, brush from the outer corner inwards, so the colour gradually fades towards the centre.

For dramatic night eyes, the darkest shade on the crease of the eyelid and underneath the lash line on the outer part of the eye under the lashline, to create the illusion of bigger eyes. Don’t forget to blend. If it looks too dramatic, you can always wipe your brush clean and apply another coat of your lightest shade over the whole eyelid, to tone down any sharp lines.

A good trick is to do your eye makeup before applying foundation in case you need to clear away stray particles.
