As money-savvy Kiwis, we’re used to squeezing the last out of every dollar. But when it comes to things like razors – it’s time to respect the use by date.
Whether you’re using new blades or a disposable, the verdict is in on when you should be getting rid of that blunt as a butter knife razor.
Dermatologist Whitney Bowe told Refinery29 that after just a handful of shaves, the razor will have been exposed to bacteria, will start to rust and could cause skin issues.
According to the experts, we should be changing our razors every five to seven shaves – which for many of us will mean every week or so.
The wet, dewy conditions of the shower will cause the blade to rust faster and gather bacteria – so it’s also recommended you dry and store the razor away from water after each use.
And once the blade starts tugging or nicking the skin – it’s time to toss that blade.
