**How to self-tan:

**1. Shave or wax your legs before tanning so they are as smooth as silk. About eight hours beforehand is best, to avoid skin irritation.

  1. Follow up with a generous slather of rich moisturiser.
  1. The end of the day, an hour or so before going to bed, is the best time to apply fake tan. But always exfoliate first. This is an important step in creating a great tan. Pay special attention to knees, heels, ankles and elbows.
  1. Pat your skin dry and lightly moisturise, again paying extra attention to those dry danger zones.
  1. Now it’s time to tan and there’s a technique to remember. Start at your feet and ankles. Using a small amount of tanner, start blending it in, in circular upward motions. Keep your knees bent to avoid an uneven application around the creases.
  1. Keep working upwards across your thighs, bottom, tummy and lower back, still with a circular upward motion. It’s a good idea to do this in front of a full-length mirror to make sure you’re getting it right.
  1. Apply the tanner to your chest, upper back and neck, then a thin layer to your face. Blend it well.
  1. Next, do your arms and shoulders. A light application to the backs of your hands will complete the process.
  1. Wash your hands with soapy water or rub a little self-tan remover on to your palms and fingers before rinsing clean.
  1. Put your pyjamas on and head to bed. You’ll wake up looking like you have just returned from a tropical island holiday!
