If you want to brighten up your face without adding a whole lot of makeup, a statement lipstick is the way to go.
The punchier the colour, the bigger the impact, so don’t be afraid to go bold with electrifying hues. A bright lippie can be the perfect finishing touch – just take your cue from Emma Watson, Kate Upton, Amy Adams and other loud lip-wearing stars.
Of course, the only downfall to a bright lip is the upkeep. These vibrant shades take a bit more work to keep in line, but the effort is worth it. Click through to find out how you can nail your own bright lipstick look.
The first key to making your lipstick work for you is to ensure your lips are in great condition.
Apply a nourishing lip balm, like the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm, $44, or the Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, $8.95, and make sure it has enough time to absorb.
To make sure your lipstick doesn’t migrate outside your mouth, line your lips first with a pencil in the same colour as your lippie.
Trace the edges of your mouth and shade in the rest of the lips. This will give your lipstick something to stick onto, so it stays put longer. Try the Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipliner, $19.99.

Apply your lipstick either straight from the tube or with a lip brush for more control. If you want a natural alternative with plenty of pigment, try the Karen Murrell Lipstick in 12 Rymba Rhythm.

If you slip outside the lines a little bit, don’t worry! Take a Q-tip dipped in makeup remover and dab away until any mistakes are invisible.

For the finishing touches, separate one sheet of tissue and use it to blot your lips.
Place it over your mouth, dip a brush into a translucent powder and then dust it on your lips, over the tissue. This will set your colour for maximum hold. We like the Moisture Mist Translucent Face Loose Powder, $40.
