Shimmer
For a hint of shimmer on the cheeks try a light, iridescent pink brush on powder. Applying lightly as a blush, or as an illuminator to highlight facial contours. For a deeper colour, opt for a rose or apricot colour with added shimmer.
Golden glow
Golden bronze is a flattering choice for a dramatic party look, no matter what your age – it especially makes bluey green eyes stand out. If golden eyeshadow is too dramatic for you, try it as an eyeliner or a highlight on the browbone.
Party makeup tips
Before applying any makeup at all, slick on some nourishing lip balm. By the time you’ve finished with your eyeshadow, brows, foundation etc, your lips will be primed and ready.
Help your eye look last longer by using a lid primer first. It’s all about evening out skin tone and giving
the shadow something to grab on to. Using a rich eye cream will have the opposite effect – makeup will slip right off oily skin.
It’s a myth that women over 30 shouldn’t apply shimmer. It looks great on eyes, lips, nails or cheeks, but don’t use it in all those places or it’ll look overdone.
If you’re going straight out after work, don’t feel you have to cleanse all your makeup off and start again. Instead, build on your day look by adding deeper or more shimmery shades of blusher, eyeshadow and eyeliner, topping up lashes with a high-impact mascara and finishing with a deeper, more dramatic lipstick.
A slight shine to your brows looks good with a metallic eye – just slick in place with clear lip gloss if you don’t have a specialist brow product.
Worried about trying a bold new look? Avoid last minute panics by playing with any new products before party night so you’re completely confident they suit you.
