When I’m very busy, my beauty routine tends not to go much beyond the basics. Fortunately, you can go a long way with a decent blow-dry. This week is all about doing the basics better with some great expert tips.
Blow-dry basics
Detangle hair with a wide-toothed comb and arm yourself with a round bristle brush – the longer your hair, the thicker the brush should be – and some hairdressing clips to section your hair.
Towel dry hair, apply blow-dry lotion and then rough dry to take out about 80% of the moisture – this step is especially important if you have thick hair or you’ll be there forever!
Style the front of your hair first. The section between the temples and the ears is where hair is at its finest and so dries the quickest. It also tends to be the trickiest, most important bit.
Now section off pieces of hair, starting at the nape. No section should be wider than your brush.
Draw the brush from roots to ends, winding hair round it and back towards the scalp. Always direct the flow of air from your hairdryer downwards and keep it 5cm away from your head to avoid burning your scalp.
once each section is dry, move on to the next. Don’t disturb the one you’ve finished until it’s cool.
If a section of hair dries completely before you get to it, moisten it with a spray bottle before styling.
Finish off your blow-dry with a few drops of glossing spray or serum.
