It’s been a hard week for The Block NZ’s Courtney MacKay and Emma Diamond. The Blue Team have been dealing with a leaky house and finishing up the stairwell and entrance areas on top of competing in the 24-hour odd jobs challenge.
So what’s going to be enough to perk a tired gal up? A tall, handsome caller, of course …
Enter Courtney’s Highlanders fiancé Joe Wheeler!

Courtney says, “We were told that Shelley and Mark were turning up so to be waiting by the door. We were hoping they were giving us more money or something! Then, just before the door knocked, I joked to Emma how funny it would be if it was my fiancé at the door – I honestly had no idea – and there he was!”
It was a tearful reunion for the 25-year-old Dunedinite and her rugby beau, who is currently in South Africa preparing to play in the Super Rugby semi-finals this weekend.
“I got quite upset when I saw him because I had no idea he was in Auckland!” spills Courtney. “Especially when I knew he was MCing a friend’s wedding in Christchurch the day before he turned up at my door.”

Joe, 28, stuck around The Block for a quick 24 hours, getting a tour of House Three and tagging along on the girls’ errands – because the show must go on!
While the love-birds, who got engaged in December last year, are used to the whole long-distance thing, the blonde beauty says it doesn’t get any easier.
“Some goodbyes are harder than others and that one was a hard one – but I held back. He was about to get into a taxi to leave and I didn’t want to make him upset,” tells Courtney.
“At least it is good motivation to know it is coming to an end and I will see him in a few short weeks.”
The Block NZ airs Sundays at 7pm, and 7.30pm from Mondays-Wednesdays on TV3.
