After 10 weeks of dirty DIY and gruelling physical labour, the final hammer has fallen at Block HQ – and Brooke and Mitch have been crowned The Block NZ: Villa Wars’ 2015 champions.
In a thrilling live auction, the Christchurch couple watched in nervous anticipation as their labour of love sold for a whopping $1, 350, 000.
As well as their $190,000 profit the elated lovebirds have bagged themselves an extra $100,000 in prize money to take home a “life-changing” total of $290,000.
On spending their loot, Mitch says, “We want to move to Queenstown, but it’s not the cheapest pace to live. We want to buy a bit of dirt down there and create a lifestyle and have some little rugrats.”
Their success didn’t come at the expense of their fellow teammates, who all walked away with a hefty cash injection.
Coming in second equal were Jamie and Hayden and Cat and Jeremy, who each profited a matching $160,000.
Despite a black and white colour palette despised by the judges, Auckland sports nut Jamie and Hayden’s monochromatic masterpiece sold for an unexpected $1,335,000.
With a clear vision throughout the competition to inspire young New Zealanders, Hayden’s final words to Kiwi kids are, “Dreams do come true and ours definitely did tonight!”
People’s Choice Award winners Cat and Jeremy from Taranaki also walked away with a brand-new Honda Jazz RS. Their house, which was last to be auctioned off, went for $1,320,000.
A shiny new whip is perfect for Cat, who doesn’t own her own vehicle. She says, “Jerms has being dropping me to work and picking me up for years, it’s a bit niggly.”
And while they might’ve lacked muscle, pint-sized pocket rockets Sarah and Minanne didn’t lack where it counts with no shortage of eager buyers on the night. Taking home an impressive $123,000 in profit, the sweet siblings’ trendy villa sold for $1,272,000.
Weeping at the result, Minanne says, “We cried our way through The Block, it’s only fitting we cry now.”
Adds Sarah, “We are so proud of ourselves! We’ve done so many things, we’ve learnt so many things and the money is just a bonus.”
