The first week of The Block NZ saw plenty of highs and lows – literally – as the teams battled it out to see who would score the highest for their kids’ bedroom.
For the first time in the series, judges Jason Bonham and Bernadette Morrison awarded a whopping 9/10 points each for one team’s room – a feat unheard of thus far for the first week in.
The lucky team scoring all the praise was Andy and Nate, who were singled out for their success in meeting the brief and nailing their execution.
It wasn’t all roses for everyone else on The Block, however. Stace and Yanita’s room earned them 11.5 out of 20, with the judges knocking them for leaving paint on the carpet, among other things.
Christchurch brothers Ling and Zing also failed to impress, scoring a six for what the judges labelled “a boring white room”.
However, twins Julia and Ali really earned the judges’ wrath this week. A controversial light feature and the lack of doors in their children’s room contributed to the team scoring just one point from Jason and three from Bernadette, putting them in last place.
As any seasoned Block fan will know, though, things change fast and there’s still plenty of opportunity for the other teams to even the score.
