Seven Sharp reporter Matt Chisholm has been announced as the host of New Zealand’s own Survivor series, which is set to air soon on TV2.

Matt will be a familiar face to many Kiwis thanks to his work with Close Up and the Seven Sharp team. While the hosting gig marks a new direction for the broadcast journalist, Matt says he’s up for the challenge.

“I never would have dreamed that I would be part of the Survivor phenomenon. Working in news and current affairs is a fantastic ride but I’m looking forward to dipping my toes in new waters for a bit!”

“I can’t wait to watch the castaways slug it out, in what is one of the hardest reality-show competitions in the world,” he continued.

Applications for the show have now closed, but TVNZ have revealed that over 8,000 Kiwis applied to be part of the first ever Survivor New Zealand series.

The show follows a group of castaways as they are put through the paces in a series of mental and physical challenges, all with the goal of outwitting, outplaying and outlasting the others to claim the ultimate prize.

The original Survivor (USA) series has been going strong for 32 seasons, with the latest taking place in Kaoh Rong, Cambodia.
