She plays legal drama Suits’ sassy Donna Paulson, but in real life, actress Sarah Rafferty is about as sweet as they come! We sit down with the star to talk life on and off the small screen.
There are so many Suits fans in New Zealand. Have you ever thought about coming here?
I’ve been to New Zealand! It was ages ago, more than 10 years ago, and I went on a tramp. It was beautiful – I loved it. I’d have to go and get my little book out to name everywhere I went, but I remember we splurged on a beautiful hotel by a lake in the South Island. I’d love to come back one day! Maybe one day I could do a tramp with my kids.

How old are your children?
Oona is eight and Iris is four.
Do they have any sense of how popular Suits is?
I don’t think they totally get it, no. A couple of years ago, we were in New York and we got off the subway, and there was a Suits poster right smack in front of us on the platform. My little one was two at the time and she was in my husband’s arms. She pointed and was like, “Wait, that’s Mommy!”

You’ve been playing Donna for five years now. Do you feel like she’s a part of you?
Yes, I feel like she’s one of my best friends! It’s funny – I was talking to our creator on the phone last night and I was saying, “When this show is finally cancelled, it’s going to be really hard for me. I’m going to really miss her!”
It’s going so strong now, though – I can’t imagine it being cancelled anytime soon! People are loving season five. The feedback we’ve had has been amazing. The other day, my hairdresser was like, “You just have to tell me what’s going to happen – I’m stressing out!” I’m very close with her and I was like, “Are you serious? Do you want me to ruin it for you?” She was like, “Yes!” So I told her. I trust her, though.
