Home and Away’s Bonnie Sveen tells all

Her character Ricky Sharpe has been through the wringer this year, but Home and Away star Bonnie Sveen is relishing all the on-screen drama!

We sat down with the blonde bombshell to talk through the show’s emotional Christmas cliffhanger episode, how she prepares for all the ups and downs of her character’s story line and what she thinks of the rumours of Brax’s (Steve Peacocke) possible return to Summer Bay!

How do you prepare yourself for shooting the Christmas cliffhanger?

Different storylines always require their own preparations. Depending on said drama, you need to fully investigate, understand and empathise with what is happening to your character. The cliffhanger generally means high stakes emotional drama, so you need to do a lot of prep before the day, to assure you can deliver required energy and drama on the day.

There is a bit of a history of terrible things happening at Christmas, do you worry about what horror will be inflicted on your character?

It’s not the same for actors as it is for viewers. We generally relish tragedy or suffering of our characters, it makes our job dynamic and interesting!

Your character has been through an awful lot this year, how has 2015 been for you in general?

Amazing. The best so far.

What are your hopes for Ricky in 2016?

I’d love to continue to see her challenged and pulled outside her comfort zone… that allows the character to change and grow. After you’ve played the same character for a couple years, it’s fun to shake things up and discover new traits and facets.

What are you looking forward to the most over the summer? You must be excited to have some time off?

Oh yes. Family family family. And eggnog. Brandy sauce with a little Christmas pudding by my Aunty Maree…

There has been a lot of talk about the possible return of Brax in 2016, can you shed any light?

Never say never. I have a hunch he’s not gone for good! And Ricky will have a lot to say about it.
