At the end of Shortland Street’s shocking finale last year, Kerry-Lee Dewing was in full panic mode as her alter ego Kylie came face to face with a rogue gunman. But after a restful and relaxing summer break, the stunning South African starlet seems to have shed all the anxiety associated with her character Kylie and is looking forward to returning to work!
Before Shorty returned to TV2 on January 18, we sat down with Kerry-Lee to talk summer favourites, quiet getaways and sinking her teeth into 2016.
What does a typical summer look like for you?
I love to get away and do some camping – go to really secluded places and detach myself from the life of Kylie. It’s so great to just tap out for a little bit. I spend a lot of time at the beach over the summer. It is my place of tranquility – there’s something about looking at the ocean that is so relaxing. I can totally zone out.
Are you excited about going back to work?
Yes! Kylie is faced with some extreme challenges in 2016. It’s exciting because as an actor, I have the opportunity to really sink my teeth into the work and focus on portraying her story with honesty and conviction.
Where do we pick up with Kylie this year?
First off, everyone is trying to find Drew and that turns into another Kylie detective story. He’s her boss and she’s quite close to him, so she feels passionate about finding out what happened to him.
A bit later on, TK returns. A lot has happened since he’s been gone, so it will be good to have him back.
Shortland Street airs weeknights from 7pm on TV2.
