Oh Offspring, why do you play with our emotions so?
Before you read any further, we are going to talk about Patrick’s death in this article – so if it’s still too soon for you (it will always be too soon) we understand.
For those brave enough (there are some happy tears moments in here too!), relive just some of the most emotional moments from Offspring so far.
Patrick’s Death: We’re calling it. Patrick’s (Matthew Le Nevez) death on Offspring goes down as the saddest, most gut-wrenching moment we’ve ever seen on TV. Just thinking about it brings tears to our eyes. So on that note, let’s move on before the real waterworks kick in.
Sisterly love: Shortly after Patrick’s death, when Nina (Asher Keddie) is heartbroken beyond belief, she confides to Billie (Kat Stewart) that she’s afraid she won’t be able to love her child because she’s too sad. Billie responds with, “I’ll cover you. If you’re too sad to start with, to love the baby, I’ll love the baby until you’re ready to”. Cue the sobbing
Zoe’s birth: Her entrance into the world was rather ungraceful (Nina gave birth to Zoe on the floor in the corridor of St Francis Hospital – where she works) but it was certainly emotional. Ironically, things happened so fast that Billie (the one person in the hospital with no qualifications) was the one to deliver Nina’s baby.
Billie finds out she’s pregnant: Billie wants a baby more than anything in the world. In season two, when she finds out she’s pregnant it’s one of the happiest, most beautiful scene of the series (watch the video snippet below). Sadly, she later has a miscarriage.
Billie finds out shes pregnant
Nina finds out she’s pregnant: Nina finds out she’s pregnant on her 35th birthday. Darcy (John Waters) has re-created her dream 8-year-old fancy dress party. Nina and Patrick rush to the ultrasound machine in full fancy dress costume to confirm that Nina is expecting.
Geraldine’s infidelity: Cherie (Deborah Mailman) discovered that Darcy couldn’t be Nina’s biological father. Nina confronted her mother Geraldine (Linda Cropper), who confessed to having an affair. Nina’s real father turns out to be Dr. Phillip Noonan (Gary McDonald).
Darcy dies: The writers of Offspring aren’t afraid to kill off a main character or two. Season six began with Darcy’s death – which sent the Proudman clan into chaos.
Billie and Mick’s wedding: Their relationship has had more ups and downs than most, but watching Billie and Mick tie the knot at the end of season four was heart-warming to say the least.
Six At Best: This is one of the lighter moments, but don’t be fooled into thinking you’ll get away without shedding a tear. After sleeping with Nina, Mick confesses to Billie by writing a song called Six At Best about how bad Nina is in bed. While it’s mortifying for Nina, it does help the sisters reconnect.
Nina’s dance routine: Again on the lighter side – but we defy you to watch Nina’s dance routine (video below) without cracking a smile. It’s equal parts cringe-worthy to watch and relatable (come on, we all think we look better on the dance floor than we actually do).
