The Queen’s ‘favourite’ corgi has passed away

One of the Queen’s “favourite” corgis, Monty, has passed away.

Palace officials confirmed the 13-year-old pooch, who was previously owned by the Queen Mother and is the oldest of the Queen’s dogs, had passed away this morning.

Monty recently starred alongside the Queen in the James Bond clip that featured in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

At present, the Queen also owns two corgis, Candy and Vulcan, and two other Pembroke Welsh corgis called Willow and Holly, who are descended from Susan – a dog she was given on her 18th birthday.

According to reports, the Queen has already been offered a corgi puppy to carry on the family tradition. The breed has been associated with the royal family since 1933, when the Queen’s father, King George VI, bought his first corgi called Dookie.
