Royal social media wars

When it comes to their profile, the palace’s determined to make sure they’re #trending

Trending on TikTok: Princess Anne

If the King thought his rivalry with sister Anne was over, he’d better think again – the Princess Royal has become an overnight sensation on TikTok with a growing number of Gen Z fans fawning over her wit, her fashion and the fact she once told a wannabe kidnapper, “Not bloody likely!” Palace insiders say the 72-year-old is being her usual “no-nonsense” self and ignoring most of it, but behind closed doors, she’s having a bit of fun with her envious brother. “Poor Charles is doing his best to not show his jealousy,” says an insider. “The poor man has never felt so dull – even his sister is more interesting than the new King.”

The Prince and Princess of reels

The Prince and Princess of Wales are turning into bona fide film producers by upping their social media game. Kate, 41, and Wills, 40, almost broke the internet with their coronation reel on Instagram – a slick, professionally edited short film of the family behind the scenes – and they’re not stopping there. “Kate’s been working closely with her team on her lighting and editing skills, and she’s very proud of that reel,” reports an insider. “She can’t wait to do more, even if it upsets a few family members.” The video hasn’t gone down well with Charles and Camilla, we’re told. “Aside from the fact they didn’t even feature in the clip, they’re stunned to see them go all Hollywood.”

Nottrending Meghan and Harry

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have managed to resist posting on their @sussexroyal Instagram page, despite Meghan’s threats of returning to social media amid their public discussions of it being bad for mental health. “It’s true they’ve encircled themselves in a bubble with their social media ban, but Harry sometimes sneaks back online for a peek and you can bet she does too,” says an insider. “They have filters in place and their team do a miraculous job of screening out trolls, but avoiding social media is near impossible, especially living in the public eye.”

King & Queen of Twitter Charles and Camilla

With 5.7 million followers, they top the charts as the most popular royals on Twitter, but King Charles and Queen Camilla are keen to hold on to their social media crown and are not going to be left in the shade by their heirs. They are planning on launching their own polished campaign to oust the Prince and Princess of Wales from their techno throne. “Charles is insisting that his team put together a proper social media strategy so he can be seen as a modern monarch and not be obliterated from relevance by William and Kate,” says an insider.
