Donning a bright blue ensemble with a matching hat, the royal was spotted attending church with her husband Prince Philip on Sunday, January 8.
A short video clip of the royals’ journey posted by the BBC shows the Queen sitting serenely in the backseat of the car, with Prince Philip seated next to her. The royal couple travelled to St Mary Magdalene church in Sandringham, Norfolk, for the morning service.
They were joined by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as the rest of the Middleton family – including James, Pippa and her fiancé James Matthews.
This was the Queen’s first public appearance since falling ill with a cold over the Christmas holidays, which forced the monarch to forgo her usual visit to Sandringham to attend the Christmas service.
Until yesterday’s church outing, Queen Elizabeth had not been seen in public since she hosted a diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace on December 8.
However, the monarch had been keeping busy behind closed doors at her Sandringham estate, according to Court Circular, the official record of royal engagements. On January 3, Her Majesty was noted as having awarded long-serving staff member and servant Raymond Wheaton the Insignia of Lieutenant of the order, an honour she personally selected him for.
Raymond, a page chamber who has worked for the royals for 30 years, was received by the Queen herself to be awarded the prestigious honour.
