The first official joint portrait of Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge has been unveiled.

During a visit to their namesake region of Cambridgeshire, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge watched as the painting made its debut to the public in the University of Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum.

After the unveiling, William and Catherine marked the occasion on the official Cambridge Instagram, writing: “Delighted to see this new portrait unveiled at the @fitzmuseum_uk in Cambridge today!” alongside a photo of young kids viewing the piece.

The portrait was commissioned last year by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund as a gift to Cambridgeshire. It is the work of award-winning artist Jamie Coreth.

“It has been the most extraordinary privilege of my life to be chosen to paint this picture,” Coreth said, as per PEOPLE.

“I wanted to show Their Royal Highnesses in a manner where they appeared both relaxed and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified.”

He continued: “As it is the first portrait to depict them together, and specifically during their time as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the image to evoke a feeling of balance between their public and private lives.

“The piece was commissioned as a gift for the people of Cambridgeshire, and I hope they will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it.”

In a special detail, in the painting, Catherine is re-wearing her Vampire’s Wife metallic emerald dress that she donned during a visit to Dublin in March 2020.

Eagle-eyed fans also noticed that she is wearing The Duchess of Cambridge’s Brooch, a pearl-and-diamond piece that dates back to the late 1800s that has been worn by previous Duchesses of Cambridge.

Catherine also made a subtle nod to her late mother-in-law as in the portrait, she is wearing Princess Diana’s Collingwood pearl drop earrings and three-strand pearl bracelet.

Fans were also taken with the shoes Catherine wears in the portrait and Sex and the City fans may recognise them!

The picture shows the Duchess of Cambridge in matching emerald green crystal-buckled Manolo Blahnik pumps, the same style Carrie Bradshaw wore in the 2008 film.
