The Queen’s summer break in Balmoral has been cut short after Prince Philip was taken to hospital.
The 91-year-old was admitted to hospital as a “precautionary measure”, according to Buckingham Palace officials. They did not provide any further details, and the Duke of Edinburgh is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days.
In June Philip came down with an infection following his appearance with the Queen in the flotilla procession down the River Thames during the jubilee celebrations. However he has looked in good spirits recently, after he was seen cheering on his granddaughter Zara Phillips at the Olympics as she represented Great Britain in the equestrian events.
