Prince Harry’s girlfriend Meghan Markle has spoken out about receiving death threats over the course of her career.
The American actress, who is best known for her role as Rachel Zane in Suits, told TV host Pier Morgan that she has been the subject of death threats due to her acting career.
“People wanted to kill me. Not Rachel, me,” she said in June.
“I never knew there were so many emojis with guns and knives. It was very unpleasant.”
Most of the abuse was thrown at Meghan after her character cheated on her boyfriend in the hit show, but once she “got back on her pedestal,” things seemed to normalise.
Prince Harry confirms he is dating Suits actress.
The actress also admitted in the interview that she was recently single, and felt out of practice in the dating scene.
But evidently she didn’t feel like that for long, as by November – Prince Harry took the unprecedented step of telling the world he was in a relationship with Meghan.
On Tuesday, November 8, Prince Harry released a public statement confirming he and the actress were in a relationship, and attacked the press for their treatment of her.
In particular, he took offence at the “racial undertones of comment pieces,” that focused on Meghan’s mixed race ethnicity.
This was a first for the British royal family, who have always been notoriously private about romantic matters – with even the Duchess of Cambridge herself never being mentioned officially until her engagement to Prince William in 2010.
