Prince Albert wants Vin Diesel to play him in a movie

Vin Diesel could be getting the royal treatment in a movie about Prince Albert of Monaco

Prince Albert is in talks to make a film about his efforts to lead Monaco’s bobsleigh team to the Olympics, and he wants Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel to play him onscreen!

The film project is called Royal Ice and is based on the triumphant story of how Monaco (a tiny principality that has never had any history in the sport of bobsledding) managed to assemble a national team.

Mark Thomas, the writer behind the movie, reportedly used his own memories of how Prince Albert battled opposition from his late father Prince Rainier to bring the bobsleigh team to life in a small region with limited snow.

Pretty Woman director Garry Marshall has signed on as director and the film is due to make its way into theatres in 2018, the 30th anniversary of the team’s first appearance at the Olympics.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Monaco’s royal family has made an appearance on screen. Last year, Nicole Kidman portrayed Grace Kelly in the controversial Grace of Monaco – a film that Albert and his family publicly distanced themselves from after rumoured clashes with the filmmakers. Hopefully, this time around the filming process will be a lot smoother!

Prince Albert told People he was “a little embarrassed” at the thought of seeing himself in the film, but said he hoped someone “reasonably athletic” would be cast in the role.

“I really have no preference,” he replied when asked who his top pick would be, before adding, “maybe Vin Diesel or someone else who is slightly balding?”

If Vin Diesel is cast, this would be the first time the action man has tried his hand at portraying real-life royalty – we can’t wait to see how he’ll do!
