Meghan Markle’s ‘something blue’ was a hand-me-down from Diana and Kate

What a sweet way to honour Princess Diana.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a point to include tributes to Princess Diana at their wedding, namely their wedding flowers and the chairs they used in their official royal wedding photos.

But one way the couple honoured “The People’s Princess” that you might not have noticed was hidden inside Meghan Markle’s dress. The newly named Duchess of Sussex followed in Kate Middleton’s footsteps by wearing something Princess Diana once owned as her “something blue.”

Meghan Markle’s wedding dress — a heavenly creation by Givenchy’s artistic director Clare Waight Keller — was stunning, and her nearly 16.5-foot veil divine. But what made the gown all the more special was the blue ribbon stitched inside that once belonged to Princess Diana.

The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly sewed the same ribbon inside her wedding dress for her 2011 nuptials, which is certainly a testament to how much the late Diana means not only to her boys, but also to the extended family she never got to meet.

It’s unfortunate that Diana will never get to welcome Meghan into the royal family — especially considering the fact that Harry is convinced the pair would have gotten along marvelously.

“They would have been thick as thieves without question,” he said during a CNN interview after he and Meghan announced their engagement.

“I think she would have been over the moon, so excited for me, [and] best friends with Meghan. It’s days like today that I really miss having her around, miss being able to share the happy news.”

That said, we’d bet that Meghan — like Diana — will continue to break royal protocol and shake up the stodgy, old British royal family.

In fact, we see a lot of Diana’s trailblazing spirit in Meghan, (not to mention, Meghan and Diana’s matching wardrobes!) and we can’t wait to witness all the wonderful change she’s going to bring about.
