Meghan Markle’s estranged half-sister Samantha Grant — or Samantha Markle, as she now prefers to be called — has opened up about her famous sibling in a scathing new interview.

During an appearance on A Current Affair, Samantha accused the royal-to-be of not doing enough to help their father, Thomas Markle, who declared bankruptcy in 2016 and now lives in Mexico.

“Honestly — what she could spend in a weekend would greatly help dad, so that should be a priority,” Samantha said.

Speaking directly to her half-sibling, she continued: “I think you need to step up to the plate and make sure he is well taken care of.”

Samantha, who has multiple sclerosis and has been wheelchair-bound for more than 10 years, went on to reference a specific designer dress worn by the duchess-to-be in her official engagement photos.

“If you can afford $75,000 for a dress, you can afford $75,000 to help your dad. That’s how I feel, that’s who I am,” she said.

Samantha referred to a gown, which reportedly cost $75,000 (NZD $103,000), worn by the duchess-to-be in her official engagement portraits.

The mother-of-three described her relationship with Meghan, who will wed Prince Harry in May, as fractured – but insisted that she isn’t “bitter” about her sibling’s lavish lifestyle.

“I was always very proud of her. I never felt bitter or jealous,” she said. “I had made a similar choice. Because early in my life…I took my career to the level in television as well when I made the decision and I quit to get my degrees to go back to school when I made those choices.”

She added: “So how can I be bitter I had my successes?”

Harry and Meghan are set to tie the knot at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19.

As previously reported, the mother-of-three said her sibling always had royal ambitions.

“Her behaviour is certainly not befitting of a Royal Family member,” she told The Daily Star, before adding that she was driven by “social climbing.”

“Hollywood has changed her. I think her ambition is to become a princess.”

“It was something she dreamed of as a girl when we watched the royals on TV. She always preferred Prince Harry — she has a soft spot for gingers.”

She also told RadarOnline that “The royal family would be appalled by what she’s done to her own family,” adding: “The truth would kill her relationship with Prince Harry.”

Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, became engaged in November over a roast chicken dinner at their home, Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

“It happened a few weeks ago, earlier this month, here at our cottage; just a standard typical night for us. Roasting a chicken… trying to roast a chicken,” Harry said of the private moment during an interview with BBC News broadcaster Mishal Husain.

“She didn’t even let me finish, she said ‘can I say yes, can I say yes?’ and then there were hugs and I had the ring in my finger and I was like can I — can I give you the ring? She goes — oh yes the ring.”

“It was a really nice moment, it was just the two of us and I think managed to catch her by surprise as well.”

Meghan added: “It was so sweet and natural and very romantic.”

The pair will tie the knot at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19.
